After Almond Blossoms
by Vincent Van Gogh
(There are 932 pieces left)
//
We are swapping secrets,
In the leaves,
In the trunks,
In the petals,
//
(There are 754 pieces left)
//
Together we are,
Beneath blue,
Inside blue,
Breathing in blue,
//
(There are 566 pieces left)
//
We dream in the hues,
Separated out into red boxes,
They float between our fingers.
//
(There are 300 pieces left)
//
(There is one piece left,
It has crawled under the fridge,
Or burrowed into the bottom of the bin)
//
We are complete without it.
Behind the poem...
This poem is based on Vincent Van Gogh’s Almond Blossoms – a jigsaw puzzle of which my mum and I spent weeks studying until we’d completed it. We learned there are more shades of blue than we ever thought possible. I’m not usually one for puzzles, but I did love this one and everything that came with it.
